Medical or Environmental Emergencies and Natural Disasters

1. Emergency Situations (Medical or Environmental)
• We will assess the situation and administer basic first aid, if applicable and within our training.
• We will contact you immediately. If unreachable, we will contact your designated emergency contact.
• If urgent care is required and no one is reachable, we will transport your pet to your preferred or the nearest emergency veterinary clinic.
• All emergency care costs are the responsibility of the pet owner.

2. Natural Disasters
• We will prioritize your pet’s safety and comfort.
• If remaining in your home becomes unsafe, we will transport your pet to a safe, pre-identified location, when possible.
• We will remain in communication with you and/or your emergency contact as conditions allow.

3. Communication Protocol
• Clients must provide up-to-date emergency contact information (your own and one local backup contact).
• If you cannot be reached, we will contact your designated emergency contact for care decisions.

4. Continuity of Care
• If access to your home is impossible, we will notify you and coordinate with a trusted backup caregiver, if available.
• We encourage clients to designate a local emergency caregiver as part of their pet profile.

5. Pet Owner Responsibilities
To support emergency preparedness, we ask that you:
• Keep pet care details and emergency contacts current.
• Inform us of any medications, allergies, or medical conditions.
• Discuss your preferred emergency veterinary clinic and any cost limitations in advance.

Pet End-of-Life Policy

We love and care for every animal as if they were our own. If a pet passes away while in our care, we treat the situation with dignity, compassion, and transparency.

1. Immediate Response
• We will confirm the passing and handle your pet with the utmost respect.
• We will notify you immediately. If you are unavailable, we will contact your emergency contact.

2. Veterinary Confirmation
• For sudden or unexpected passings, we will transport your pet to a veterinary clinic for confirmation and documentation.
• If the pet was under palliative care, we will follow your previously documented wishes.

3. Aftercare Arrangements
• We will follow your specified preferences, including transportation to a cremation or burial service.
• If no preferences are on file, we will use a reputable provider and await further instructions.

4. Communication and Documentation
• A written account of events and relevant veterinary records will be provided upon request.

5. Client Preparedness
We encourage all clients to provide:
• Preferred emergency vet clinic contact info
• End-of-life care preferences
• Aftercare instructions (cremation, burial, etc.)
• Authorization for Pawsh Pet auPairs to make timely decisions if you are unreachable

We understand pets are family. If a beloved companion’s life ends while in our care, we will ensure they are honored with compassion and that you are fully supported through the process.
